Swedish Mission in East Turkistan 1930/1931 (part 2)



This project aims to make available online for the first time archive films and audio recordings about and by members of the Swedish Mission (Svenska Missionskyrkan) in East Turkistan (Xinjiang), China.

The Mission was active in East Turkistan from 1892 until 1938. Most of the film material is from the 1930s.

Film note: The is a collection of short recordings of daily life in Kashgar and Hancheng (Chinese settlement near Kashgar). There is also footage of the Mission's school (male and female), Kyrgyz village / Mission summer camp of Bostan Terek and return journey.
Note for this presentation: The film was subtitled in English for this project. The original Swedish text has been retained but edited to last longer for better viewing. Where there was no text information provided by Lund University has been used. The order of films have been changed with the return journey placed at the end. No footage has been cut out.
