Those Wahabies is an extreme to our culture and they were not shy about spreading their version of practice among our people. I may fall to other extreme end of the spectrum. I don't want preach my believes, i don't want other people to accept my believes. every body has to come to their conclusions through their unique life journey. I want to mention it in the hope that it will serve as an antidote to the extremes at the other end. so, here it goes:
humans are spiritual beings, couldn't live withought some sort of religious practice no matter where and when they lived. what's religion? is it the word of god or canonization of cultural norms? it is a scientifically proven fact that it is latter. religion was a creation of men. the three Abraham religions all have their roots in ancient egypt and mesopotamian cultures. The Jews ingrafted the ancient religious tales of egypt and middle east into their history to create their book torra. the christians added their own stories to the jewish ones to create the biblile. then 600 years later arabs created their owb version by combining bible stories with their own culture. it served as a powerful ideological tool that helped normadic tribes of arabia to unite and project political powers far beyond their traditional domain. while the question of god was not settled, the question of religion is a settled debate. it is not gods word. it is a culture. since we grew up with islamic culture, it is as good as any as long as we take it with a grain of salt. if you take it literally as gods word, it will become a problem. if god needed his word to reach humans, he was certainly capable of delivering his message to all 6 continents and all the major cultures, not just to middle east. indians in the new world never heard of gods word until the europeans arrived 1500 years after jesus spreaded his message from God. Why? God didn't like the Indians? it is nonsense, right? just do it moderately as a culture, be a good person. as the uyghur saying goes: creation is from god, how to be human is from people.
